My Communitites

As a member of many communities, I am able to connect and relate to many different groups of people. I am a student and employee, and membership in these communities allows me to connect and form all types of relationships with those I come in contact with. As a student, I form professional and educational connections with fellow students, professors, and possible employers. The connections made and the discourse between my connections and I on the university campus are not as casual as others, and they allow me to think critically about the world around me.  My work community offers a more casual environment for discourse. I work in a local  restaurant with people that have been in the business for most of their adult lives. Although we all differ in age, we have all managed to become great friends and a tight knit team. My connections with coworkers are different than those of my classmates or professors in that we operate in a more casual manner while also operating as a team. Although these communities are quite different, there are also some similarities. While at work and on campus I must follow rules and stick to a schedule. I also must present myself in a professional manner and respect those around me both on campus and at work. These two communities are very important factors of my day to day life, and without them I would have to find other communities.

  1. I really like how you pointed out the similarities in the two communities that you mentioned. I suppose I can relate to this, in a sense. I too am a student-employee, and I completely understand how they can be the same in retrospect. Finding such similarities in such different communities can be tough, but you pulled it off. I enjoyed reading your post.
